Installation of New Traffic Signs
Last modified: September 5, 2006 - 2:33 PM
Generally requests for traffic signs are considered by Council's Traffic Advisory Committee (TAC). The installation of Regulatory Signs, for example, Stop & Give Way signs and parking restrictions, can only proceed following consideration by the TAC and endorsement by Council.
It should be noted that the installation of traffic signs is often governed by warrants contained in various Australian Standards or National or State technical guidelines. For example STOP signs are only installed when certain sight distance restrictions apply.
When deciding on whether or not to approve the installation of a new traffic sign, Council must consider the continuing maintenance costs associated with signs. Therefore Council will only approve the installation of additional traffic signs where a genuine need has been demonstrated.
If you would like Council to consider installing a traffic sign, submit a written request to Council's Traffic Engineer within the Engineering Services Division. You will need to provide your contact details, along with specific information regarding the possible location of the traffic sign.
All written submissions can be addressed to The General Manager, Great Lakes Council, PO Box 450, Forster, NSW, 2428.
