Signs

Last modified: September 5, 2006 - 2:29 PM

Council's Engineering Services Division provides and maintains various types of signs within the Great Lakes Area.

Street / Road Signs

Council places and maintains signs in public streets or roads, such as street/road name signs, signs directing to public facilities and road safety signs.

Public Streets / Roads
If you require a street/road sign to be repaired or replaced on a public road, contact Council's Engineering Services Division by telephone, in writing or in person and place a Service Request. You will need to provide your contact details, along with specific information regarding the location of the sign.  If you wish to request that a new street/road name sign to be installed you are required to provide the above information in writing.

Please refer to Traffic Signs below for information on signs such as give way signs, stop signs and parking restriction signs.

Private Streets / Roads
Council does not place or maintain signs for privately owned streets / roads. However, if you would like to place a sign on a privately owned street/road, a sign can be ordered from Council at your cost. Contact Council's Engineering Services Division in writing to obtain a quote and order a sign.

Traffic Signs

Traffic Signs include regulatory signs such as give way signs, stop signs and parking restriction signs.

Maintenance or Replacement of Traffic Signs
If you require a traffic sign to be repaired or replaced, contact Council's Engineering Services Division by telephone, in writing or in person and place a Service Request. You will need to provide your contact details, along with specific information regarding the location of the sign.

Installation of New Traffic Signs
If you would like Council to install a new traffic sign, your request will need to be in writing and requires consideration by Council's Traffic Advisory Committee. Click on the link below for further information on requesting the installation of a new traffic sign.

Directional Signs to Businesses and Tourist Facilities

If you would like a sign installed directing to your business or a tourist facility, contact Council's Engineering Services Division to request a sign. You will need to provide your contact details, along with specific information regarding the proposed location of the sign. The request will be assessed by the Engineering Services Division according to Council's standards. If the request is approved, directional signs to businesses and tourist facilities can be ordered from Council at cost to the applicant.
