Urban House Numbering
Last modified: October 8, 2008 - 1:26 PM
Council allocates house numbers at the time of Subdivision Release for urban properties. Additionally, as requested or upon further development in an urban area, new house numbers are allocated and existing house numbers are amended if necessary.
Obtaining your House NumberIf you require a house number to be allocated to your property or want to know what your house number is, contact the Engineering Services Division by phone, in writing or in person and request a number. You will need to provide your contact details, along with specific information regarding the location of your property, such as Lot, DP and street/road name.
Subdivisions and Allocation of House NumbersWhen a subdivision is approved house numbers are allocated to the newly created lots prior to Council returning the approved plans to the applicant. This process involves: 1. Allocating house numbers to newly created lots, in sequence with existing house numbers adjacent to the new lots. 2. Supplying a copy of the plan showing house numbers to the applicant, Council's Rates Section and other relevant authorities and services, such as the NSW Ambulance Service and Telstra. 3. Supplying a copy of the plan to Council's Draftsperson in Council's Design Section to have Council maps updated.
Displaying your house numberCouncil requires that property owners display their house number at a location that is easily visible from the road. Council has the authority to enforce the display of the correct house number under Section 124 of the Local Government Act 1993.
Who do you need to inform of your new house number? When a house number is allocated, Engineering Services will advise Council's Rates Section and arrangements will be made for Council maps to be updated. You are required to inform any other services that utilise your property address as your postal address, such as Australia Post.
All written submisssions can be addressed to Great Lakes Council, Engineering Services Division, PO Box 450, NSW, 2428.
