Positive Response to Forster School of Arts SurveyLast modified: November 26, 2007 - 3:18 PM
Great Lakes Mayor, Clr John Chadban welcomed the community response to the survey on the future use of the Forster School of Arts site. Council received 253 responses to the survey and the results demonstrate a broad range of views. “I was very encouraged to see many positive suggestions for the future use of this important community site. In the general comments section of the survey, 129 members of the community provided suggestions and views on how Council should handle the future development of the site. Nine of those who responded did express their view that the current School of Arts should be retained”, said Clr Chadban. The survey results are available below and hard copies are available from the Council office and Forster Library. Responses show strong support for a public hall and meeting rooms and general support for performance facilities and a new public library. There was also a clear preference for Council to look at utilising the adjoining land to provide an integration of new community facilities with 60.9% of those who responded preferring to see new community facilities on the School of Arts site plus the adjoining land. 28.3% preferred to just use the School of Arts site and 10.9% wanted to wait and see what alternatives were put forward. The results of the survey support moving towards detailed planning of the School of Arts site to ensure that the development of community facilities on the site meet community needs and expectations well into the future. This site is a valuable community asset and any decision needs to be well thought out with detailed professional advice and community consultation said Clr Chadban.
Council considered the survey results and the process for undertaking detailed planning incorporating extensive community consultation at the Council meeting held on Tuesday 30 October 2007. Contact details
