Carers celebrate Carers' WeekLast modified: November 2, 2009 - 2:35 PM
To celebrate Carers Week 2009, Great Lakes Neighbour Aid in conjunction with Great Lakes Manning Community Options Projects and Great Lakes Leisure and Respite Options, organised a special luncheon at Club Forster on Friday 23 October for the carers of their services. Great Lakes Council auspices these services to provide support and assistance to frail older people, people with a disability and their carers, with funding from the State and Federal Governments through the Home and Community Care (HACC) Program. Coordinator of the event, Karen Burton, said the luncheon was organised to say a big thank you to carers for their tireless work caring for members of the local community. "Carers look after relatives or friends who may be frail older people or people with a disability, mental health problem or chronic condition," said Mrs Burton. "They work tirelessly around the clock to support the more vulnerable members of our community. Carers Week is about celebrating their valuable contribution, while giving them an opportunity to take a break from caring and enjoy a mouth watering lunch, socialise with other carers and be amazed by the entertainment provided," she said. Thanks must go to Club Forster and Carers NSW for their financial contribution to this event, as without their support, the carers of our local community would not have had this opportunity.
