Everyone invited to help create Great Lakes 2030Last modified: October 12, 2009 - 8:23 AM
All residents of the Great Lakes are being invited to join with Council in developing a new and exciting plan to take the region forward to 2030. The Great Lakes Community Strategic Plan, Great Lakes 2030 will be completed over the next six months. During October and November, a range of community workshops, surveys and information stalls will be staged right across the local government area to find out what the community considers are the priorities for the Great Lakes over the next 20 years. Everyone has a part to play in the future of the Great Lakes and it's important for everyone to have a say in our community's plan for the future, by either attending a workshop or by completing a survey online on Council's website, at http://www.greatlakes.local-e.nsw.gov.au/community/13069/13185.html or in hard copy. Workshops will take about two hours, are open to all members of the community and will occur across the Great Lakes on the following dates: Forster - Great Lakes Council Chambers, two separate sessions at 11am or 6pm on Tuesday 20 October; Stroud - RSL Hall, at 6pm on Thursday 22 October; Tea Gardens - Tea Gardens Baptist Church Hall at 6pm on Monday 26 October; Pacific Palms / Smiths Lake - Moby's Retreat at 6pm on Tuesday 27 October; Bulahdelah - School of Arts Hall at 6pm on Wednesday 28 October; Nabiac - Showground Hall at 6pm on Wednesday 4 November. The exciting part of Great Lakes 2030 is that this Plan will be developed by the community to reflect what the community considers important for the area into the future. Al members of the community - youth, high school students, young adults, young families, working people, town and rural residents, retirees, volunteers and older people - are invited to participate and let Council know what they want the Great Lakes to be like in 2030. What would YOU want the environment to look like? How would YOU like our tourism industry to be operating in 2030? What services and infrastructure will YOU need in 2030? What employment, education and training opportunities should we provide in the Great Lakes by 2030? What shape should our culture and communities take in 2030? Anyone who is unable to attend a workshop can still have their say by looking at the information on our website and completing the community survey. Additional workshops are being held specifically for the business community and for State and Federal agencies. For further information on the workshops or Great Lakes 2030, please telephone Council on 6591 7222. Contact details |
