Works commence on Smith's Lake Recreation Complex

Last modified: August 3, 2009 - 4:18 PM

Great Lakes Council has now commenced works on Stage 1 of the Smiths Lake Recreation Complex.

For many years the Smiths Lake Recreation Advisory Committee has been campaigning and raising money for the development of a multi purpose facility at Smiths Lake.  With an injection of $220,000 from the Federal Government and Council ongoing support, the vision is about to become a reality.

Stage 1 works will include the construction of a skate park and reshaping of the remainder of the reserve to be used for general play.  A netball court, toilet facilities and car parking are also envisaged for the site in future as funds permit.

"The Recreation Advisory Group have worked tirelessly in trying to get this project over the line, and now it has started" said David Bortfeld, Manager Parks and Recreation at Great Lakes Council.

"These facilities are a much needed addition to the natural recreational opportunities that Smiths Lake has to offer" he added.

For further information about this project please contact David Bortfeld, Manager Parks and Recreation on 6591 7222.
