Hawks Nest/Tea Gardens Endangered Koala Recovery Plan
Last modified: June 2, 2009 - 2:30 PM
The Recovery Plan for the Hawks Nest/Tea Gardens endangered Koala population aims to address the species decline and restore the overall viability of the population in nature.
Over the last two decades, the population of Koalas in Hawks Nest/Tea Gardens has experienced significant decline and in 1999 was officially listed as Endangered in New South Wales. Ongoing threats associated with habitat loss, fragmentation, roadkill and dog attacks have the potential to further reduce numbers. In response, the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC), with special assistance from Council, has prepared a Recovery Plan for this population. Council is also working as part of an interagency team, including the local community, to implement the Recovery Plan to protect and restore this population.
To view the Recovery Plan please refer to the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service website.
