Wallis Lake Estuary Management Plan
Last modified: June 2, 2009 - 2:35 PM
The Wallis Lake Estuary Management Plan (WLEMP) addresses issues regarding the social, cultural, environmental, recreational and commercial amenity of the lake.
This Plan identifies the current state and pressures on the Wallis Lake estuary and outlines the range of actions that need to be implemented to ensure the protection, management and restoration of this highly significant landscape. The plan has identified that the estuary is in relatively good condition, although pressures from pollution, urban development and use are having a demonstrable impact. The implementation of this Plan will bring positive improvements to the estuarine environment.
The Wallis and Smiths Lake Estaury and Coastal Management Committee have been formed recently as a result of merging the Smiths & Wallis Lakes Estuary Management Committees.
A Coastal Management Plan will be prepared over the next 2 years.
