Port Stephens/Myall Lakes Estuary Management Plan

Last modified: June 2, 2009 - 2:37 PM

The Port Stephens/Myall Lakes Estuary Management Plan was developed to address water quality issues within Myall Lake and surrounding environment.

Council adopted the Port Stephens/Myall Lakes Estuary Management Plan in 2000. This plan investigated the environmental issues associated with the Port Stephens/ Myall Lakes estuary system and identified a range of actions required to achieve ecologically sustainable management of this area. Catchment erosion and siltation was identified as one of the priority issues. Therefore, several erosion control projects were identified, including the remediation of an active erosion site at Nerong that was contributing large amounts of sediment to Nerong Harbour. Other actions identified in the plan related to fish passage and foreshore management. A Foreshore Management Plan has recently been completed for Port Stephens.

To view the Port Stephens/Myall Lakes Estuary Management Plan please refer to the Port Stephens Council website.
