Rural Incentives Scheme
Last modified: August 24, 2009 - 10:29 AM
This project engages and assists rural landholders to protect and restore the environment and adopt sustainable land management practices throughout the Wallis, Smiths, Myall and Karuah catchments.
Focusing on the management of creek and river banks, wetlands, soil and native vegetation, the project has already delivered significant, long-term environmental outcomes. A total of 57 projects have been designed and funded, with the following being achieved:
- 457-hectares of land permanently conserved within Registered Property Agreements;
- 49-kilometres of stock exclusion fencing on riparian zones and 135-hectares of wetlands and 24-hectares of remnant native vegetation protected; and
- 81 off-stream watering points, 11.6-hectares of actively eroding areas stabilised, planting of 12,600 native trees and shrubs and 364-hectares of native bushland subject to intensive weed control.
Council is continuing to implement the Rural Incentives Scheme in conjunction with the Hunter Central Rivers CMA and Greater Taree City Council. If you are a landholder interested in protecting and restoring the environment on your property please contact the Catchment Coordinator for further details.
