Food Safety

Last modified: September 2, 2009 - 3:56 PM

Great Lakes Council employs staff who specialise in environmental health activities to carry out a broad range of inspections from an eductional and enforcement perspective.  The primary aim of these inspections is to ensure that food sold is safe to consume.

Council officers conduct regular inspections to ensure that food is being handled and produced hygienically and will be safe to eat, to minimise the potential risk for food poisoning, to ensure that business operators and food handlers have appropriate skills and knowledge in food safety and food hygiene, to inspect premises and assess the condition of the equipment and appliances and to assess personal hygiene practices.

Fact Sheets and information on a broad array of food safety issues are provided below, please click on the relevant topic to access the information.

A booklet has been produced by the local Councils to help Commercial Operators to relocate to temporary events.
