There is a potential health risk with any open water cooling system - bacteria can breed in the water of a cooling unit and if the proper precautions aren't untaken and, if untreated, may have hazardous consequences. Legal requirements for water cooling systems may be found in the Public Health Act 1991, Public Health (Microbial Control) Regulation 2000 and the Australian Standards AS3666 Parts 1, 2 and 3.
