Weekly Rubbish / Recycling Collection ServiceLast modified: July 8, 2009 - 12:16 AM
A 240-litre divided Rubbish / Recycling Mobile Garbage Bin (with a yellow lid) is provided to each domestic household. Find out the conditions of use, what is recyclable and what day the services are provided in your area. Collection information * The bin will be emptied weekly - place on the kerb the evening prior to your collection day. * Place the bin clear of parked cars. * Remove from the kerb within 24 hours. * Report any damaged parts to Council’s Waste Management staff, who will arrange for replacement. This should occur the next time your bin is emptied. * If your normal collection day falls on Christmas day then the service will take place on the day before, as collection drivers enjoy a well-deserved day off! Conditions of Use * The bin is to remain on the property at all times (even if you move). The bin is the property of Great Lakes Council and is assigned to your property. It is an offence to remove it. * A regular hose-out will keep your bin clean. * Do not move or remove the divider. * Please report any theft or damage to the Council. * Do not overfill the bin. The lid must be able to close and must not exceed 50kg for it to be collected. * Rubbish is to be placed in the front section of your bin and recycling is to be placed in the back section of the bin. * Only normal household rubbish should be placed in the bin. Do not place the following items in the bin: Hot materials, Oils, Car or Truck Batteries, Building materials, Solvents or Heavy materials. Items to be placed in the Recycling Section of your bin include: * Glass bottles and Jars (no crockery or ceramics) * Aluminium and Steel Cans * Plastic Bottles marked 1, 2 & 5 (in the triangle on the bottom) * Paper and Cardboard (unsoiled) * Milk and Juice Containers (not "longlife" milk and "poppa" containers) Bin Inspections Council Officers and JR Richards & Sons collection drivers conduct random inspections of bins on a regular basis. This enables us to provide residents with information on correct recycling in the Great Lakes. If you place plastic bags, rubbish or other non-recyclables in the recycling section of your bin, it may not be collected until the next collection day after the problem is corrected. The efficiency of the service depends on you. Non-compliance will result in an advisory tag or non-collection of the bin. Contact details
