Economic development

Are you setting up or expanding a business in the Great Lakes?  Do you have an idea on how to improve employment prospects in your industry or community?  Council's Economic Development Manager is your first point of contact providing advice, support and information to encourage local business and industry development.  If you require statistics on the local area, information on government services and support, advice on how to proceed with your project or help to make contact with like-minded businesses or individuals, telephone Deb Tuckerman on (02) 6591 7390 or email deb.tuckerman@greatlakes.nsw.gov.au  For further information on doing business in the Great Lakes, go to the Great Lakes Business website.

The Economic Development Manager works closely with the community, business and government sectors to strengthen the area's economic base and stimulate growth in employment.  Council also sponsors the Hunter Business Centre which provides a free and confidential one-to-one business counselling service in the Great Lakes. To access this service, telephone (02) 4925 7700 or 1300 650 058.

Great Lakes Council will be exhibiting the Draft Forster Tuncurry Employment Land Implementation Strategy (November 2008) during the period from Wednesday 17th December 2008 until Friday 13th March 2009. The draft strategy has been prepared by Hill PDA Consultants on behalf of Great Lakes Council to provide Council with a clear framework on which to plan the provision of areas for employment related activities (specifically retail, bulky goods, commercial and industrial) over the next 25 years in the Forster Tuncurry area. Submissions are invited and those interested in making formal submissions should do so in writing by the close of business on Friday 13th March 2009.  For further information go to the following link on Council's website:
