Great Lakes Centre-Based Respite Service

Last modified: March 4, 2009 - 10:33 AM

Aims to provide the person with memory loss who lives by themself or with a carer with socialisation, meals and specially designed activities which will take into account each individual's needs.  The service is also aimed to give respite to carers who may like to spend the day relaxing, shopping or spending some time doing a favourite pastime.

Service Delivery

Services are provided by the Team Leader, Activity Officer, Support Worker and Volunteers giving their time to help others.  Staff and volunteers are caring, empathetic and responsive to the special needs of the clients.  They receive ongoing training and support and volunteers receive reimbursement for out of pocket expenses.

Costs

You will be asked to contribute a small amount toward the cost of the service.  This covers morning tea, lunch and activities.  No person is denied services solely because they are financially disadvantaged.

Transport

Clients will be picked up and taken home in the service's Commuter Bus which seats 9 passengers and has wheelchair access.  The supply of the bus is a joint venture between Great Lakes Council and Manning Valley & Area Community Transport Group.

Clients/Carers from a Culturally & Linguistically Diverse background and Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Clients/Carers

Staff will endeavour to effectively communicate with clients who are CALD or ATSI clients.

Options to be utilised will include the Telephone Interpreter Service, TIS (24 hours) telephone number 131450, liaison with members of the Aboriginal community and/or other community services and access to information in languages other than English produced by other agencies.  The HACC Clients Rights and Responsibilities booklet will be distributed in the appropriate language.

Volunteers

The Daisy Club requires dedicated and caring volunteers to provide services.  All volunteers are trained, with a variety of skills and life experiences.  Volunteers receive reimbursements, support and training eg Memory Loss, Occupational Health & Safety, Duty of Care, Rights & Responsibilities.

Do you have some spare time?  We would love to hear from you.  A great amount of enjoyment and satisfaction can be gained from volunteering.
