Community Census 2008 - Now Extended to 13 April 2008
Have your say – Influence Council direction
Great Lakes Council is conducting a Community Census to evaluate Council's performance and better understand the lifestyles and priorities of the community. The results will assist Council in its planning for how to best serve the community. By participating you are investing in the future and ensuring your priorities are taken into consideration in developing the Great Lakes Strategic Plan 2020.

How can I make a difference by completing the Census?
- Evaluate the performance and importance of all Council services.
- Inform Council's direction on what we do, and how.
- Tell Council how you would like to be consulted or involved.
- Tell Council, Government and service providers about what has an impact on your quality of life. So they can plan services and infrastructure to address community priorities.
Who can participate?
- Anyone who lives, works, or owns property in the Great Lakes Local Government Area.
- All Census results are anonymous and individual survey results confidential.
- Each member of the household is invited to complete a survey, regardless of age.
- Carers and community workers may provide assistance, however the results should reflect the views of the person being assisted.
$1000 prize pool for participants!
On completion of the survey you are offered the opportunity to participate in a lucky draw for one of ten $100 vouchers, redeemable for any Council service including:
- Great Lakes Aquatic Centre membership, swimming lessons, etc
- After School and School Holiday Programs for primary school aged children (delivered in Tuncurry and Tea Gardens)
- Council caravan park bookings
- Hall bookings
- Rates payments
- Purchase of subsidised worm farms and compost bins
- Photocopying and other fee-based library services
- Development application fees
- Pet registration fees
- Garbage services
- Cemetery reservations
Community Census Fortnight
The Census is open Monday 17 March – 13 April 2008
There are three ways to participate in the Census:
1. The Census is online! A link to the ‘Community Census’ is available below.

If you do not have access to the internet at home, you can use the free internet access available at each of Council’s libraries (see below).
2. For people who do not have access to the internet, Census forms are available to pick up from, and return to, the

- All locations have a locked ballet box to maintain the confidentiality of your information.
- *If returning your Census to a library outside opening hours, it can be returned through the After-Hours Returns Chute.
3. For people who cannot access the internet or any of these locations, please contact Council to be posted a copy
with a reply paid envelope.
