Great Lakes 2030 community participation

Last modified: November 17, 2009 - 12:13 AM

Great Lakes Council is preparing a long term Community Strategic Plan to identify community priorities and to provide a blueprint for Council activities over the next 20 years.

Great Lakes 2030 will be the community's plan - so it's important that every member of the Great Lakes community has an opportunity to have their say about their future.

Throughout October and November a series of community workshops and consultation activities were undertaken right across the Great Lakes to give as many people as possible a chance to have their say.

More than 600 people attended a workshop or completed a community survey.

The community workshops asked participants to think about what will be important for each of the following themes as we build a strong and vibrant Great Lakes over the next 20 years:

  • Our Environment
  • Community and Culture
  • Tourism
  • Services and Infrastructure
  • Employment and Education Opportunities

What happens now?

The independent consultations who conducted the consultation activities across the Great Lakes are now preparing the draft Community Strategic Plan Great Lakes 2030 based on the community input.

The draft Great Lakes 2030 plan will be presented to Council by the end of the year and will then be placed on public exhibition.

How do I have a say?

The draft Great Lakes 2030 plan will be placed on public exhibition for a period of three months. During this time, community members will have an opportunity to review the plan and provided feedback.

Details of the public exhibition period will be widely advertised.
