Community & recreation

Council provides a range of services to improve the lifestyle of residents, as well as performing advocacy roles for the establishment and provision of improved services to the community from third party providers and other levels of government.

These services include Cemeteries, Community Development, Facilities Management, S355 Committees, Cultural Development, Social and Welfare Services and Home and Community Care (HACC) Services to support frail aged and disabled people within our community.

In addition to these Community Services, Council offers a wide range of sporting and recreational facilities. These facilities are provided to meet the needs of our growing community and visitors to the area. Recreation facilities and services include sporting fields, parks and gardens, beach facilities, swimming pools, public toilets, boat ramps, wharves and jetties, as well as provision for community events and overall beautification of the Local Government area.

The key objectives when providing community and recreation facilities are:

  • To provide parks and community facilities which meet the varied recreation needs of the community now and in the future.
  • To ensure provision of clean, safe and useable facilities for the community.
  • To identify long term use, development, maintenance and operation of major parcels of community land using sustainable development principles.
  • To create and maintain service levels acceptable to the community and within allocated budgets.
  • To coordinate input and activities from community volunteers to improve standards of maintenance and development of parks and sporting facilities.
  • To establish a cohesive landscape image for urban areas.
